  • Stay-in residential programme for persons with intellectual disabilities
  • Experiential learning to prepare for employment and integration to society

TOUCH Ubi Hostel offers a stay-in residential programme for adults with mild intellectual disabilities. Located in a housing estate, it provides an excellent training ground for the trainees to experience communal living with a flat-mate in a simulated environment.

Based on a client-centered approach, TOUCH Ubi Hostel seeks to provide a competency-based training programme to prepare them for independent living in the community and for open employment.

Upon completion, the clients will be able to return to their family with the acquired daily living skills and sustained employment, thus posing minimal inconvenience and burden on the family or caregiver.

At TOUCH Ubi Hostel, we provide advanced training in daily living, personal and social skills; pre-employment training, placement and support. To prepare the trainees for employment, we also set up the 301 Thrift Mart in 2003 to help them develop good work habits as well as cognitive and social skills. As part of the enrichment programme, community service, sports, performing arts and recreational activities are organised regularly.

Using the Mediated Learning Experience approach, our training philosophy and methodology aims to help the young adults with mild intellectual disabilities to become better learner and to empower them for employment and independent living.

"There has been a huge change (in my son's behaviour) - the staff are very caring and it works like a charm."
- Mrs Lorna Yee, mother of trainee Philip Wong
"...the Ubi home is a crucible of innovation."
- Ms Radha Basu, Straits Times, April 12, 2008

301 Thrift Mart

The 301 Thrift Mart was set up as a simulated training platform for the intellectually-challenged adult clients to prepare them for open employment and total integration into the society.

301 Thrift Mart allows for experiential learning in a simulated retail environment where clients are allowed to make mistakes and learn in the process. Through it, they learn the value of money, appropriate social behaviours, customer service, work together as a team, etc. All of these are essential in preparing them for vocational life in the outside world.

At the 301 Thrift Mart, we sell items such as clothes, books, electrical appliances, CDs, VCDs, toys, household items, clothes, bags, ladies' accessories, computers & peripherals - all donated by kind sponsors. 301 Thrift Mart's operating hours are as follows:

Wednesdays & Fridays: 11.00am to 3.30pm
Thursdays: 11.00am to 2.30pm.

We are also in need of items that are still in good and working condition to fill our shelves at 301 Thrift Mart. If you have useable items to donate to us, you may drop them off at Blk 301, Ubi Avenue 1, #01-295 during these hours (except public holidays and during the hostel’s term break) -

Mondays to Thursdays: 9.00am to 8.00pm.
Fridays: 9.00am to 5.00pm.
Sundays: 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
