Doing Good Together for SG60

Doing Good Together for SG60

Doing Good Together is a limited collaboration between JOURNEY, TOUCHpoint@Yishun 436, and TOUCH Centre for Independent Living (TCIL) (Ubi). Forged in commemoration of SG60, the collaboration celebrates the spirit of togetherness, with the aim of fostering an inclusive and caring society.

This meaningful project celebrates Singapore’s 60th birthday through co-created artworks and aims to raise funds through the sales of specially curated Care Kits and artworks.

In commemoration of SG60, eight seniors from TOUCHpoint@Yishun 436 and eight JOURNEY special artists came together to co-create and celebrate the spirit of unity and nationhood. Through this cross-generational initiative, we aim to foster an inclusive and caring society where everyone, regardless of age or ability, has a role to play.

Overcoming misconceptions to collaborate together

Through these co-creation sessions, participants not only learned about art and painting but also exchanged life experiences and formed new friendships. Misconceptions were gently replaced with understanding and appreciation.

I can see that they are very talented from the way they draw and paint. I am so amazed to see their finished artworks, and their ability to earn an income and even fundraise,” said Mr Paul Tan, 77, who added that people with special needs need more people to stand up for them so they can do more.

Mdm Murtha Jothi, 69, who partnered with special artist, Ms Emily Chua,37, shared, “My first encounter with this talented group of artists left me with a very good impression. We had an enjoyable time laughing and learning together.”

Giving back through creativity

Doing Good Together empowered our clients not just to bond, but to express their talents and love for Singapore in a meaningful way and give back through their creativity and spirit.

Diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, Say Kim Han, 50, found it challenging to communicate or express his feelings in words. Through his time at TCIL, not only has Kim Han learnt to express himself, he can now also confidently initiate conversations with others.

Kim Han became one of the first Special Artists to earn an income from his art and participated in collaborations to showcase his talent and determination, like having his art featured on the National Day Parade (NDP) fun packs in 2020.

Even though they are beneficiaries who receive support from the community, these seniors and special artists are stepping forward to contribute to the very community that has supported them — a powerful act of gratitude and hope through their artistic expression.

As Mdm Jothi puts it, “It’s so cool to have the design collage nicely printed on various merchandise. This project truly captures the spirit of what it means to do things together to help others.”

Join us in supporting the seniors and special artists who poured their hearts into this project.

Your donation empowers them not just to be cared for, but to be able to continue creating and giving back.
