Job Summary:
The incumbent is part of Special Needs Group who reports to the Centre Manager of TUH and is responsible for the role of Lifeskills Coach that encompasses implementing holistic services and programmes that will benefit and make an impact to the needs of clients under TUH and Special Needs Group. The incumbent is responsible for delivery of quality service, personal efficiency and teamwork at the workplace.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
A. Planning, Development and Implementation of Training and Open Employment Programmes
- Be a part of the team for planning and development of training curriculum.
- Assess and chart out Individual Care Plan with social worker for each trainee under your charge at the beginning of each year and to report on progress on trainees to Centre Manager on quarterly basis and when required.
- Deliver lesson plans, mentor and nurture trainees in the sub-competency skills of DLS, PSS and OGP, employing creative and innovative efforts to stimulate trainees’ interests and to enhance their knowledge and skills (e.g. preparation of visual aids and materials).
- Conduct exercise and health-related activities for trainees
- Ensure safety of clients at all times during operating hours.
- Identify, monitor and chart progress of trainees weekly, based on the lesson plans that are carried out and during all practical sessions such as exercise,cooking, packing project, outings etc.
- Assist the Snr Lifeskills Coach in the area of training the trainees for open employment market and actively working with the team to ensure that trainees are up to the standards for employment.
- Maintain a courteous and respectful 2-way communication with families to keep them informed of activities at the Centre, welfare, conduct and progress of trainees through regular phone contacts, home visits, report card,assignments returned through portfolio file, memo and others.
- Be part of multi-disciplinary team in training, discipline and in the assessment of trainees. To assist the Social worker/Manager to make objective assessment of trainees.
B. Open Employment
- To assist the Snr Lifeskill Coach in the area of training the trainees for open employment.
- To assist the Snr Lifeskill Coach to implement a systematic approach inbselecting trainees with the potential to be employed in the open market and actively working with the team to ensure that trainees are up to the standards for employment.
- To impart specific industry competencies and skills for the targeted individuals to prepare them for employment.
- To keep tab of the market trends so as to keep up with our training standards.
- To network with potential employers if required to explore employment opportunities for our trainees.
C. In-House Project - Work Project
- Using Work project as a platform for training of trainees – to equip them with the generic skill sets such as good working attitudes, team work and to manage behaviour through informal training and mentoring as you make active observation of the trainees on the job.
D. Weekend Programme
- Be part of the team for planning and developing programmes for Weekend Programme trainees.
- Support and assist Continuous Support Programme (CSP) events and activities organized during the weekend if needed.
- To engage volunteers in supporting weekend programmes when required.
E. Administrative Duties
- Maintain training records and to track the progress of each trainee placed under your care.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree holder
- Preferably with Special Education or Disability Studies trained with 1-2 years of experience working with persons with special needs.
- Basic skill in MS Excel, MS Doc. Intermediate skill in MS presentation.
