Building Skills for Independent Living

The Independent Living Studio (ILS) is jointly managed by SG Enable and TOUCH Community Services. It is a simulated home-living training space designed to support persons with disabilities in building essential skills for independent living.

What to Expect

Through modular, competency-based training, persons with disabilities can:

  • Gain practical experience in managing daily tasks; 
  • Learn how to make informed decisions on home safety and routines; 
  • Use assistive technology; 
  • Develop social skills in a safe and realistic setting, and; 
  • Attend interest-based workshops that encourage exploration and participation in meaningful activities. 

ILS also supports caregivers through programmes focused on guidance, support, and future planning, empowering them to better care for and journey alongside their care recipient.

Together, these efforts help PwDs build confidence, strengthen independence, and prepare for active participation in the community. 

How to Apply

Upon indicating interest on the form here, our staff will get in touch to arrange for an assessment to help us understand your training needs based on the Enabling Skills and Competencies Framework (ECSF), so we can recommend suitable training modules for you.

Eligibility Critieria

  • Persons with diagnosed disabilities.
  • Aged 18 years old and above. Priority will be given to participants with caregivers aged 55 years and above. 
  • Demonstrates interest in improving independent/home-living skills or has been assessed to require support in home-living competencies. 
  • Interested in exploring and learning the use of assistive technology to support independent living. 
  • Able to participate in structured group activities.

About the Independent Living Studio

The Independent Living Studio (ILS) provides training for persons with disabilities to develop essential daily skills in a simulated HDB flat. The ILS is jointly managed by SG Enable and TOUCH Community Services, and supported by SPD. The programme is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Enabling Lives Initiative Grant and Mr Loh Kiong Poot. The interior design, home fittings and furnishings are sponsored by IKEA Singapore.
